What you should do before the move

  • Discard or donate unwanted items before the move
  • Order preprinted address labels with your new address
  • Notify the post office that you will be moving
  • Arrange to leave pets with a friend on move day
  • Think about your new home layout and start thinking about where you'll place the furniture

What you should do the day of the move

  • Meet with the move supervisor at the outset to insure he understands any special needs. These could include items of special care, and items to be unloaded first or last
  • Medical and dental records should be placed in a safe and accessible place
  • Take important documents, such as wills, stock certificates, and other one of a kind items (jewelry, coin collection, photos etc.)
  • Make certain your household pet is wearing proper identification and any required license tags in case they get lost. After the move, give your pets time to adjust to the new neighborhood.
